The thought for today January 14th 2025 is this. The call of God is not something that is reserved for a special and unique few but it is for everyone that has put their faith and trust in Christ. The passage was in Isaiah 6 where Isaiah is in the presence of God and over hears God ask the question, Who will go for us? Another aspect of this call is that there is nothing forced about when God calls us. He wants the ambition to follow and obey him to come from a love for him and he wants us to want to serve and follow him. I hope that makes sense. May we this day listen and hear the still small voice, the voice of our shepherd and in so doing make the statement without reservation, Here am I, send me.

The thought for today is this. God cannot fully get our attention until we are alone with him. We are going to be going into the Lent season shortly. What are we going to give up or add to our spiritual walk to get closer to him? The method that Jesus used for his disciples was to get them alone without the distractions of the world around them and only then was he able to teach them the things they needed to know. Our time alone with him is different for each of us but we are missing out many times because we do not take the time to be alone with him and his word.

The one thought that I came away with this morning is that there are some things that pertain to God that we cannot understand. Our God is an infinite God and our finite minds have a hard time comprehending him sometimes. That does not mean that we do not try. The author references the 139th Psalm that there is not a place that we can go where God is not there. God knows everything about us, even the places that we do not have a firm grasp on ourselves. Even though God knows everything about us, even the dark places where we even fear to go, he still loves us and wants to have a relationship with us.What an amazing God we have.

Living sacrifice, sounds like two words that should not go together or if they do they do not go together very well. We all hear that we have give up something for God and that is all well and good but what are we giving things up to accomplish? The simple fact of giving something up or sacrificing is not all that God wants. Our sacrifice should not just be the death of something but our lives that belong to God. The trouble with living sacrifices is that they have the nasty habit of crawling off the altar. God wants to work through our sacrifice to bring about a deeper relationship with him. That is what it has been about since the beginning.

The thought for today was the importance of being intimate with Jesus. Sometimes we think that we are bothering Jesus when we have to ask him for something or bring a care or concern that we have throughout the day. I am confident that you are not bothering Jesus. On the contrary, he invites us to a close and intimate friendship with him. When we spend time with him we strengthen the friendship that he longs so much to have with us. When we spend intimate time with Christ there is the opportunity for growth to happen in our lives as well. What is your friendship with Christ like? I promise you that if you strive to spend time with him you will never be disappointed by the results.
